Gate officers inform councils to now not use shortage as an excuse for inaction

Producers say that there is no such thing as a scarcity of fireside doorways that meet the required requirements

Many ideas are alarmingly delaying the alternative of fireside doorways that, because the Grenfell Tower hearth in 2017, are actually deemed insufficient.

Kensington & Chelsea Metropolis Council has acknowledged that it has not been in a position to substitute the four,000 hearth doorways in its housing inventory as a consequence of lack of "dependable merchandise". Door producers say that's bogus.

Impartial hearth exams carried out on behalf of the Division of Housing following the Grenfell Tower hearth confirmed that three-quarters of the glass-reinforced polymer foam hearth doorways – of the kind used within the Grenfell Tower – didn’t respect the minimal burning time of 30 minutes time requirement. Nevertheless, all examined wooden hearth doorways had been discovered to satisfy or exceed required requirements. [See our previous report here.]

Helen Hewitt, Government Director of the British Woodworking Federation (BWF), wrote to all of the boards to attract their consideration to the outcomes of the house testing program.

She says in her letter: "To recommend that compliant and high quality hearth doorways aren’t obtainable and able to be put in is just unsuitable and should cease getting used as an excuse to delay alternative."
